Project officially started!
On the 11th April, with a virtual kick-off meeting, smellodi has officially started. The goal of our seven participating partner institutes from Germany, Israel and Finland is to develop intelligent electronic sensors that can detect and digitally transmit healthy and pathologically altered body odours. Over a period of three years and with funding of almost 3 million euros, the developed technology is to pave the path for the digitization of the sense of smell.
SMELLODI is one of two projects coordinated by TU Dresden that are funded by the EU in the Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder Open Call 2021. Both projects have prevailed against great competition for this: In total, only 56 (approx. 6%) of the 868 applications submitted received funding. The project is represented at the Technische Universität Dresden by the group led by Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti from the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Smell and Taste headed by Prof. Thomas Hummel. The consortium also includes the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from Israel, the University of Tampere from Finland and the Dresden-based start-up SmartNanotubes Technologies GmbH.
