Smelling the Future
smellodi is an EIC Pathfinder Open funded project that aims at the smart electronic recognition and transmission of body odors, paving the path for a new era of digitizing olfaction. Our multi-disciplinary group will prepare the ground for the necessary innovations in order to make digital olfaction available as a technology addressing societal and economic challenges of the future.
Our Vision
Olfaction provides a wealth of information about our environment. Partner selection and disease detection are just two examples of the versatility of our olfactory system. Despite its important role, the digitization of the olfactory sense is still in its infancy compared to vision and hearing. smellodi will develop a technology that will ultimately enable the detection and on-demand synthesis of odors, in particular for remote medical diagnostics. For that, we have gathered experts from Germany, Finland and Israel to build a multidisciplinary team.

Multidisciplinary Work
Our project builds upon a truly interdisciplinary setup that combines traditionally remote disciplines towards our common objectives. smellodi will create synergies between the latest research in chemistry, sensor technology, materials science and nanotechnology, computational science and simulation, psychology, medicine, and clinical olfaction. This way, smellodi will break new grounds in bridging the gap between natural sciences, engineering, and life and health science.
